Forest setting, lake view, lakefront, or along miles of inland waterways, Lake Tahoe's south shore offers all of Tahoe's pristine beauty with all the benefits of a mountain community. South Lake Tahoe, incorporated in 1965, begins at the state line and heads southwest over 5 miles encompassing the south end of the Lake. Many neighborhoods are near shopping, schools, entertainment, restaurants and access to the Lake. South Lake Tahoe is a skier's paradise with the well-known and popular Heavenly Valley ski resort right at your doorstep.

There are several other well-developed ski areas that are within 15 to 60 minutes away, including the 1960 Winter Olympic site of Squaw Valley USA to the north and the popular Kirkwood ski resort to the south. Many neighborhoods along the south shore of the Lake are filled with quaint and rustic cabin homes that began to pop up in numbers in the 1960's.
